(Q: What good is a button which does nothing? A: It is still available to be used with building blocks.) In addition to redefining buttons, a controller configuration for a mouse can have a custom acceleration curve. A controller configuration allows you to make one button on a keyboard act like another, or turn it off buttons entirely. All buttons on keyboards have some default function or another. There are yet other blocks which exist just to allow building blocks to be combined in interesting ways using logic (AND, OR, NOT, XOR).Ĭontroller configurations can be used to change the default behavior of keyboard and mouse devices. There are blocks which perform mouse functions (moving the cursor, simulating a mouse button or scroll wheel). There are blocks which perform keyboard functions (typing text, simulating keyboard keys).

There are blocks which represent device controls (buttons, axes, hatswitches) which are used to trigger a function. Currently, there are more than 50 different kinds of building blocks. Controller configurations allow you to redefine the default behavior of your keyboard and mouse devices.ĬontrollerMate building blocks are used to add functionality to the controls on devices. Building blocks are little nuggets of functionality which can be customized and combined with other building blocks to create complex functions. Effective.ĬontrollerMate takes a different approach.ĬontrollerMate programming is done in two ways: combining various building blocks to create the function that you want to perform, or by creating a controller configuration for your particular device. Match the button to the desired function. In order to program the buttons on a controller, one might expect that a user would be presented with a list of buttons and a list of available functions. ControllerMate’s philosophy is to be as flexible as possible, to provide a set of basic programming tools, and to allow the user to combine those tools in an endless variety of ways. I sincerely hope I am wrong and this impressive utility gets revived.ControllerMate is a controller programming tool that allows you to customize the behavior of your HID devices - keyboards, keypads, mice, trackballs, joysticks, gamepads, throttles, among others.
CONTROLLERMATE TEMPLATES SOFTWARE
I am so sad this software seems to be losing developer support, it really is an exemplary bit of of software, I had hoped it would see more polish and TLC but it seems to be decaying into obsolescence. For example I had a config where pages would activate when a certain application window was in focus/front and turn off when it was not in focus to ensure key-bindings/controls were catered to each specific application and wouldn't do any unintended actions when using other applications.
CONTROLLERMATE TEMPLATES WINDOWS
On Windows there's Autohotkey (which you have to code), and a few others, but still not nearly as intuitive or as visually based as ControllerMate is working with nodes and properties, groups and pages which can accomplish a lot more than you might think.
CONTROLLERMATE TEMPLATES HOW TO
I am super bummed out, because I had invested many hours learning how to use it and setting up really neat configurations for my various peripherals, but mainly my 3 button foot controller for transcription/subtitling and video/audio scrubbing purposes which I can no longer use because there isn't anything else out there that comes close to replicating what ControllerMate can do on Mac. ControllerMate constantly crashes, the helper application necessary for things to work constantly quits, and now I'm experiencing crashes just opening ControllerMate. It was getting by on MacOS Mojave, but on Catalina it is no longer reliable. The support forum which was long in the tooth is no more, I have sent multiple emails to support (which I have corresponded with before) and have recieved no response in the last year. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, development and support for this application seems to have abrutply stalled. It is mesmerizing to watch the nodes light up when testing and setting up configurations. It is actually fun to play with and figure out due to the building block approach.
CONTROLLERMATE TEMPLATES MAC
Controller Mate is pretty much my top favorite applications on the mac for the utility it provides at such a great value and how robust it is once you understand how to use it.
